The wacky musings of a girly New York musician who is attempting to prove that you don't have to be a 19 year old anorexic model babe to be successful.

I WON! I WON! I WON!

I never win anything! But I always enter contests and raffles because they are usually for a good cause, and I'm TOTALLY into good causes!

So last week, the lovely Barefoot* Principessa held a raffle on her blog for THE MARCH OF DIMES where she raised $1047. WOOOO HOOO! (We're so very proud of that girl!)

Without much thought, I put most of my raffle points on what I considered to be one of the best prizes... A NEW BLOG DESIGN by Selena at Blog Goddess. Like I said, I have entered dozens of raffles over the years, and NEVER won anything... except for one round of Bingo on a Carnival Cruise a couple of years back... but that didn't really count! Well, knock me over... I WON!!! And ironically, I've been in contact with a couple of blog designers over the past couple of weeks to update this blog-o-mine!

SO HELP ME HERE! I'd love some suggestions before we get going with this. I know that some of you are allergic to the color pink, and I've already gotten a couple of really great suggestions from a few of you.

What do YOU envision for a blog skin for the LAST GIRL ON EARTH? Any suggestions you have MIGHT be listened to, but of course I reserve the right to totally ignore you and do whatever the fuck I want... after all, it IS my blog!

So this brings to mind the issue of ART FOR ART'S SAKE...

Many years ago, I was on tour in Germany and was walking through a museum. As we turned the corner of the gallery, we were faced with a VERY LARGE PICTURE. It looked like this:

PARDON THE HELL OUT OF ME... BUT THIS WAS A LARGE, SOLID BLACK PAINTING!

People were standing around it OOOING and AAAAHING over the DARINGINGNESS of the artist. Personally, I couldn't get over the fact that THIS WAS BULLSHIT! I mean, I just recreated this "work of art" in 3 seconds in Paint Shop! Does that make me an artist? Someone help me here!

Then there was the exhibit of a famous modern artist that I saw that featured a string of lightbulbs... yes, you heard it... A STRING OF LIGHTBULBS! The string wound around a space on the floor that was roped off so that no one would MOVE the string of lightbulbs! GIVE ME A BREAK!!!! Were they afraid someone would try to PLUG THE STRING IN AND USE UP THEIR FRIGGIN ELECTRICITY!!!
Or how about this monstrosity?

The Haircut - Sculpture with barber's chair, scissors, dental floss, and a piece of the curator's cat, by M. Jackson and J. Reilly74"x28"40"

Call me a purist. I'll take a lovely painting by someone WITH TALENT any day...
Now give me a hand designing my blog, would ya?
